Food Technology is a part of Food Science that deals with packaging, preservation, quality control, production and development of new food products. While Food Science is the study of physical, biological and chemical makeup of food, Food Technology is the application of Food Science in manufacturing, selection, preservation, distribution and use of safe food.

Food Scientists and Food Technologists use scientific disciplines to manufacture and preserve food like chemistry, microbiology, engineering, nutritious value of food to improve quality, nutrition and safety of food products.

Food Technology includes biotechnology, engineering, quality-control, food safety, analytic chemistry and food processing. Some of the different job types in Food Technology and Food Science are: 1. Organic Chemist: they deal with conversion of raw food into processed food.

2. Biochemists: they deal with improvement of food texture, flavour, quality and storage.

3. Engineers: they deal with planning, designing, improving and maintaining the processing systems.

4. Lab Technicians: they deal with analysing, testing, sampling, measuring and providing image credits: worldofchemicals.com technical support to the lab.

5. Home Economist: they deal with testing and tasting the food products according to the directions given in the containers as an expert in dietetics and nutrition.

6. Technical Brewist: they deal with the technical and managerial tasks of the brewing process along with managing and maintaining the brewing equipment.

7.Quality Manager: they are responsible for maintaining the requirements of both food processes and customer satisfaction and the standard of food according to the regulations.

8.Toxicologist: they deal with the investigation of toxic materials and its impact on the environment and living organisms.

9.Research Scientist: they research, develop and test new food ingredients, making sure they are safe for consumption.

10.Nutritional Therapist: they deal with food and food habits of people to avoid illness and diseases.

There are many more jobs like Sensory Analysis Specialists, Food Safety Officers, Food Analysis Specialists and Food Lawyers.

Food Engineering is the application of engineering principles to the storage, processing and distribution of food products. Though Food Science, Technology and Engineering are intertwined there is a slight difference in them. Each depend on the other to create safer and healthier food products.

Food Technology covers all aspects of food, that is physics, chemistry and biology of food to preserve and package food products which includes both Food Science and Food Engineering whereas food engineering concentrates on unit operations of food manufacturing, design and development of machineries for mass production.

If you love food and are interested in the food products we eat everyday, then Food Science would be a very good career for you.
